A sharp decline in the cost of solar panels and battery storage is significantly enhancing the role of renewables in power system stability and affordability, according to Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog. Over the past two years, solar panel costs have dropped by 66% and battery prices by 58%. These trends are making clean energy more competitive across new markets. For instance, Scatec’s solar + battery project in South Africa can supply firm capacity for over 16.5 hours daily. In Cameroon and Egypt, energy storage deployments are also driving economic and environmental benefits. IAOES sees this as a key signal for expanding global energy storage collaboration.
